Participation
Football fell from 2,144,700 in 2007 to 2,090,000 by 2011. While the number of small-sided teams has gone up by a thousand in the last five years.






















Falling 16 year old participation is of concern. Basketball participation is currently in the critical range against its year 3 Sport England target. FE participation is down.

in 1900 there were only 7 teams in the UK and they were all mens teams from then till 1972 the number of teams increased to 12. then in 2000 there were 18 team 12 mens and 6 womens. then from 2004-2012 the number of teams increased again to 20 teams, 12 of them were mens and 8 were women.
Provision
In the local area of bath there is a new 5asisde league starting up down the local community centre every Thursday evening on a court. Also every few months at st marks on the astro turf they hold a day tournaments and the facilities up there are top quality.
in wales there is a leisure centre opened up called the denbighshire leisure, which holds basketball tournements and allow young and old people to come down and either just play for fun or play competivly,and in the past 10 years there have been more courts on display for people to play basketball.
Basingstoke Bluefins Water Polo Club. is one of few clubs in england.
Spectatorship
in the premier league the spectatorship has gone up in the past 10 years, on average in june 1992 there was 253 spectators and in december 2011 there was 3390 spectators.
the spectatorship is basketball had gone up over the past view year because of media coverage it now get more viewers. basketball fans will get into the sport more if they can watch it on tv or see it all over the pappers, people who wasnt into basketball might change their views on the game.

Media Coverage
Sky sports started broadcasting in 1990, when the premier league was formed sky sports only broadcasted around 50 games a season, where as now they are showing 114 games a season so you can see the media coverage has gone up massivley.

most of the basketball matches now are shown on ESPN, ESPN signed a multi-year deal to show live National basketball association games.The channel show up to three live matches a week during the NBA season in standard and high definition. the media coverage is normally dominated by football, but now basketball is getting viewed. this shows that the media coverage has gone up.

Provision in basketball

Basketball now has a lot more more to offer in different countries than they did in previous years, they now have more courts for young to play and more teams to play in so people can improve there skills in the game, this will improve all the community's because this will take young people off the street and give them a fresh start and a new hobbies.

    Well done on completing your first newspaper article covering spectatorship and participation. These are currently around a PASS/MERIT as you have plenty of statistics on growth as well as reasons as to why the growth has occurred. Try to get your other 2 articles posted ASAP.
