Sports tourism.
Definition: Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes. The World Tourism Organization defines tourists as people "traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes".
Scale/size: When a country holds a major completion like South Africa did holding the 2010 football world cup it cost them $3.5bn South Africa's organisational budget has now swelled from £282m to £349m.
But Fifa's £2.1bn income from the tournament would more than cover the overall increase in its budget, which includes the South African allocation, from £733m to £800m.
Why is sporting tourism encouraged?
This is encouraged because it will increase the popularity of that area and people who maybe wasn’t interested in sports before now may be interested in it and could get massively involved, for example when you hear the country south Africa now most people will refer back to the 2010 football world cup, whereas before from a sports fan point of view they may not of thought much of it.

Impact on the local community? – How does sports tourism affect the City of Bath?
The Blue Square Premier club have offered the city's Polish community an 80 per cent discount to attend this weekend's clash against Grimsby Town. On production of a Polish ID card, fans can watch the game for as little as £2.50, instead of the usual £13 to stand on the terraces and £14 for a seat. The club have cleared the move with the Equality and Human Rights Commission but not everyone is happy with the decision. Dr David Green, director of social think-tank Civitas, said: "It's going to upset people. It’s obviously discriminatory on grounds of nationality. The people who have loyally supported City through the lean years, and the regulars who have come back, are the ones who should be rewarded, not one small community, the majority of whom will not return in the future,"

Sports medicine
What is the definition of Sports Medicine?
Sports medicine is an area of health and special services that apply medical and scientific knowledge to prevent, recognize, manage, and rehabilitate injuries related to sport, exercise, or recreational activity.
- scale and size: there are 99 articles of sports medicine, a range from, warm up, pulled muscle, lower back strain and loads more.
- How much is the Sports Medicine industry worth? Physiotherapy provided by the National Health Service is free of charge to British citizens. Private physiotherapists may be costly; commonly a half hour appointment will cost between £30 and £60 depending on the nature of a patient’s condition and subsequent treatment. Some private healthcare insurance plans cover private physiotherapy; you should check the details of your policy before opting to use a private service.
- What services do the industry as a whole?
1. Prevention: Is preventing yourself getting injured in sports when you’re fit so making sure you stretch before a game to reduce the chance of any pulled muscles, and you might get a training diagram so they can tell you how to reduce the chance of injury’s happening.
2. Clinical education & diagnostic: This is when you are not sure what's wrong with you, you go to the doctor and he/she will then diagnose you with your injury.
3. Immediate care: This is when you have an injury and you go and get it treated straight away.
4. Treatment, rehab & reconditioning: This is where you are slowly coming back from injury and you get physiotherapy treatment to speed up the recovery time.
5. Professional responsibility (education & counselling): This is for if you were out for a long term injury, and you start to feel very emotionally bad thinking you might not play again and you need people who also have a long term injury, for example Jonny Wilkinson has had a number of injury’s which has kept him out for a minimum of 3 weeks but a maximum of 7 months and where he kept trying to come back and he would pick up another injury he has been out for nearly 2 years and he will need good company to keep him mentally strong.
- Who do Sports Medicine companies target in the UK? Who actually uses Sports Medicine companies? They would target sports athletes. Thomas Hicks, an American born in England on January 7, 1875, won the Olympic marathon in 1904. He crossed the line behind a fellow American, Fred Lorz, whose concept of marathon-running extended to riding half the way in a car thereby disqualifying him. However, Hicks was also aided by outside help. His trainer, Charles Lucas, pulled out a hypodermic and came to his aid as his runner began to struggle.
I therefore decided to inject him with a milligram of sulphate of strychnine and to make him drink a large glass brimming with brandy. He set off again as best he could [but] he needed another injection four miles from the end to give him a semblance of speed and to get him to the finish.
- What impact do does the industry have on athletes in the local community? it could have good and bad impacts on the community, I think it would be a good impact if the sports medicine was used to stop them getting injured or help them recover from an injury, I think it would have a bad impact if it was used just to win a sporting event as i think natural talent should be used.
